Introduction
WebPad is an HTML-text editor designed for people who
hand-code their web sites but need more editing power
than Notepad has to offer.
WebPad runs on 32-bit Microsoft Windows platforms (95/98/NT).
is a text editor with HTML helpersgizmos
tacked on. It is multi-document, handles large files,
has long file names, supports drag & drop, and has quite
a few useful things to make HTML web page creation faster & easier.
WebPad is a modified version of Microsoft SuperPad. I got tired of using
NotePad, and WordPad was too unwieldy, so I started using SuperPad, which is
like NotePad on steroids but not quite like WordPad. Anyway. Then I started
hacking on the source to add web features, and here we are.
So here's WebPad. Even has a setup program. Not bad for free. You can
download WebPad, use it for whatever you want,
and you don't owe me squat. Conversely, I make no promises that it does
anything in particular, and I don't owe you squat either. The WebPad binary
is released into the public domain. Source code for SuperPad is delivered
with Microsoft's Visual C++. Source
code for WebPad is not availible.

This page is the only documentation for WebPad, so read carefully! Webpad is
easy to use and it should not be difficult to figure out how to use its features.

Features
- Default Web Document. The default document, instead of being
blank, is a simple HTML document with HEAD, BODY, META tags, and a copyright notice.
The default LINK, VLINK, TEXT, & BGCOLOR attributes of new document's BODY tag are
configurable.
- Auto Indent/UnIndent. Highlight some lines and press
TAB. Instead
of replacing the lines with the tab character, all lines are shifted over
the number of spaces set in the Set Tab Stops dialog box. SHIFT-TAB
and the action is reversed. Great for indenting your HTML code and making it
look pretty. (Make sure you select entire lines though, as there seems to
be a small bug which crops up if the first or last line is only partly selected. I
will fix it when I get time, in the meantime, work around it.)
- Table Wizard. Quickly create tables by specifying #columns, #rows,
border, cell spacing, cell padding, alignment, and vertical alignment. A hell
of a lot faster than doing it by hand!
- Keyboard Scrolling. CTRL-UP & CTRL-DOWN will scroll the text up & down without
moving your cursor.
- HTML Tag Accelerator Keys for:
- Bold. CTRL-B to make selected text bold.
- Italic. CTRL-I to make selected text italic.
- Center. CTRL-C to center selected text.
- Image. CTRL-M to make selected text into an image tag.
- Create Link From Clipboard. Make an anchor (link) from the URL in
the clipboard with CTRL-L. (Netscape will copy the current page's
URL to the clipboard if you double click the little chain-link icon to the
left of the location field.)
- Ordered List. CTRL-O starts an OL tag for you (one LI bullet).
- Unordered List. CTRL-K starts a UL tag for you (one LI bullet).
Version History
- V1.0 (3/7/97) -- Initial release.
- V1.1 (3/30/97) -- Added IMG SRC tag, added empty table cell option to Table Wizard,
fixed Ctrl+C so that it maps to COPY. Ctrl+R is now mapped to CENTER tag feature. Added
OL and UL tag support.
- V1.11 [7/13/97] -- Minor fixes to dialog box strings.
Future Plans
- Multi-file search & replace. Ever want to change something in more than
one file? Me too... This feature will require some time to code, so it may be
a while before I implement it.
Download
Install
- Installing WebPad is easy. Use WinZip to open the
webpad11.zip file and extract the contents to a temporary directory. Then
run the setup.exe program to install WebPad. You may then delete the files
you extracted into the temporary directory.
- To get rid of WebPad, use Add/Remove Programs located in the Control Panel.
This runs the uninstall script to cleanly remove WebPad from your system.
- If you have an older version of WebPad installed, uninstall it before installing the
newer version you just downloaded.
Feedback
- If you have comments, bug reports, or anything else to say, you can
